About International Trucks

The International semi-truck company has been building trucks since 1902. They were originally built under the International Harvester Company name, but the company name changed to Navistar in 1986. Their first trucks were marketed to farmers and other folks in agriculture, but the company added military tactical vehicles to their lineup for a time as well.

As the name implies, International trucks are built, sold, and driven around the globe. There have been and are manufacturing facilities for International trucks located far and wide, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, the UK, Germany, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey as well as here at home in the United States. International sells six series of medium-, heavy-, and severe-duty semis with loaded weights ranging from 16,000lbs to 92,000lbs. They also produce custom and specialty use trucks.

Power

International uses a variety of engines in their trucks, including the Cummins and Navistar Maxxforce engines. The N13 Navistar maxxforce engine is particularly impressive; it packs a lot of power and torque in a package that’s relatively small, lightweight, and quiet. The A26 engine is another favorite; it’s known for being efficient, easy to maintain, quiet, and smooth. International has made significant improvements in power in recent years; if you’re looking for maximum power, choose models made after 2015.

Fuel Consumption and Efficiency

It’s tough to make a semi-truck fuel efficient; their size and weight alone create a significant barrier to fuel economy. International’s A26 engine is on the leading edge of improvements in this area; it produces 515 HP and 1850 lb.-ft of torque while boasting a massive 10% improvement in fuel efficiency over other comparable engines. When you’re driving hundreds of thousands of miles a year, that 10% equates to lots of dollars added to your bottom line.
