About Freightliner Trucks
The Freightliner semi-truck company has been building trucks in the United States since the 1940s. The Freightliner company today is part of Daimler Truck, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America. The brand is synonymous with quality and affordability, so it makes sense that Freightliner is by far the most popular semi-truck in the US today, enjoying roughly 40% of the market share. That means about 1 in every 3 semis you see on the highway will be a Freightliner.
Cascadia is one of their most popular heavy-duty models. This semi-truck packs massive horsepower and torque as well as a comfortable ride.
Here’s a closer look at Freightliner:
Manufacturing
Freightliner’s largest manufacturing facility is in Ohio, where they build their Class 8 models, including the Cascadia®, Columbia®, and Coronado® models, as well as the Argosy® cab-over-engine. Other manufacturing facilities are located in Mount Holly, North Carolina, and in Mexico in Santiago Tianguistenco and Saltillo.
Power
Freightliner produces a range of trucks built for different uses, but they are generally known for their strength. Their Class 8 engines range from 350 hp to 605 hp and can produce up to 2,060 lb-ft. of torque. Even their smaller trucks have a solid reputation for power. Most models come with a Detroit engine, widely accepted as the industry standard for excellence. Freightliner makes a strong, sturdy, reliable truck that’s capable of handling the heaviest loads.
Fuel Consumption and Efficiency
While the Detroit engine is fuel efficient, it’s also on the heavy side, which pulls overall fuel economy down. That said, in general, Freightliner ranks in the middle of the road when it comes to fuel economy, but the company has been developing more forward-thinking, innovative solutions in recent years. The introduction of two electric models, the eCascadia and the eM2s, as well as lighter engines and more aerodynamic bodies are just a few of the many ways Freightliner is leading the charge to make trucking more friendly to the environment.
Comfort, Safety, and Style
One of the reasons there are so many Freightliners on the road is the company’s emphasis on comfort. Long-haul drivers appreciate features such as enhanced lighting, premium seating, ergonomic cab equipment, and the quiet, commodious sleeping quarters that make life on the road more bearable.
